Subject: Re: CDs in Boston
Where to get CD's in Boston (from a 120+ CD addict...) 1) Boston Compact Disk, JFK Street, Cambridge (across from the Janus theatre, kinda). Lots of CDs...lots of EXPENSIVE CDs...knowledgable staff, many imports. 2) The Harvard Coop, Harvard Square (in the bookstore). Almost as many CDs as BCD, many for $12-14, fair number of imports, staff took training classes at Legal Seafood. 3) Newberry Comics (Galleria @ Harvard Square, off JFK street). Same price range as coop, kinda meshes with the coop as far as selection, more imports, slightly more pricey. Only staff you'll ever see is behind register, selling T-shirts to trendy pseudo-punks. 4) Strawberries (Harvard Square). Yeah, they're overpriced pop-blah, but I did pick up my copy of Abbey Road for $22 in one... Staff thinks Kate Bush is some kind of Christmas trimming. 5) Second Coming Records (Mass Ave, under the Dolphin resturaunt, corner of Mt. Auburn and Mass Ave). Sells used CDs for $8-10 flat. Staff talks to god daily, but just getting into CDs. It should be noted that both BCD and SCR buy used CDs too. With BCD, a good strategy is to buy used CDs for $8, and resell them back for $5 after making a tape copy (also a good way to discover if you like something fairly cheap...)
