I sent this message this morning, but it didn't get through since MIT-Multics
inaccessible from here right now.

"Edward G" is Edward G. Robinson, who has been in *many* movies.

"The Maltese Falcon" is indeed a movie, starring Bogart as Sam Spade and
Peter Lorre as Joel Cairo (the "Mr. Cairo" of "The Friends of Mr.
Cairo").

What "Mr. Cairo" is saying in the song as the film reel breaks is "in
the back of the Maltese falcon I have a concealed weapon"; the whole
scene there in the song is reminiscent of but not from the movie.
(To say more about the Maltese falcon would spoil a great movie.)
